Preparation for a survey is simple. First coordinate the time and day with the marina, owner (broker) and surveyor. Next make sure all ships papers, service records and warranty information are available at the survey. Water service and electrical service should be available if necessary at the survey. The Pre-purchase survey is done first with the vessel on land to perform percussion sounding and moisture tests and to inspect the hull bottom, keel and underwater thru-hulls and running gear. Then the marina or hauler will splash the vessel and a sea trial and the remainder of all systems checks and inspections will be performed.

Pre-Purchase Survey- This is the most comprehensive type of inspection, and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. Condition and overall operation of the vessel should be examined. This covers structural integrity (using percussion sounding and moisture testing), electrical systems, water systems, the propulsion system, the fuel system, other machinery, navigation equipment, safety equipment, miscellaneous on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, upholstries, electronics, and overall maintenance as well as an out-of of-water inspection and a sea trial.

Insurance Survey - Also Known as a C&V or Condition and Value survey. This is usally for re-insurance purposes. This inspection is performed so that the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in structural integrity and safety for its intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats. They will also want to know the vessel's fair market value.
Damage Inspection - This is performed to assess the extent of damage, recommend repairs, estimate repair cost, and if requested, possible cause. The client can be the owner, insurance co., marina, lawyer, etc..

Consultation / Investigative Services - The scope of this survey process is usually requested by the hiring party . We provide services to underwriters, as well as private clients, to investigate claims ranging from simple fiberglass damage to complete loss, due to  fire, sinking, collisions and marina error.

Appraisal Inspection - This inspection is performed to gather enough information to justify or determine the fair market value of the vessel. This is normally needed for financing, estate settlements, donations and legal cases.
